What’s included?

All visible expenses recorded up to the date shown, including our car purchase and spending not assigned to a country. Expenses assigned to Germany are excluded. Travel preparation, flights and insurance are included only where recorded under these rules. Income and any future proceeds from selling the car are not deducted.

As on our world trip overview, travel days run from 01.04.2025 to today, including both dates. Documented stays in Germany are deducted; overlapping stops in Germany count only once. Gaps between stops still count as travel days. The daily average is the selected total divided by these travel days. Where euro amounts are missing, we label the result as a partial total.

Everyday travel costs compared

Where did everyday travel cost us the most?

Average spending per day for both of us. Excludes the one-off car purchase and arrival, country-to-country and homeward flights. Domestic flights are included.

Our stays vary in length and reflect our personal travel style. Short visits and individual large expenses can have a big impact on the daily average.

How we calculate our costs

All monetary figures come from our recorded shared travel expenses and are shown in euros. We use the euro amount saved with each entry; we do not recalculate older transactions using today’s exchange rates. Income is not deducted.

The detail view shows one selected country. The overall total above also includes expenses not assigned to a country. Germany is excluded. Where a travel stage is assigned, it determines the country; for older entries, we use the explicit country field. Entries without an identifiable country, hidden stages and future-dated transactions do not appear in this detail view.

Travel days are based on documented stops. Overlapping stays within a country count once; gaps between separate stays do not count. An open stay ends before the next dated stop, while the final open stay runs up to today. Arrival and departure days are included.

For Australia, you can include or exclude the verified car purchase from 20.01.2026. Totals and category breakdowns include all flights. For country daily averages, arrival, country-to-country and homeward flights are excluded; domestic flights and running vehicle costs remain included. Eligible spending is divided by documented travel days, and then by two for the per-person figure. Daily averages remain unavailable while flight types or euro amounts for eligible spending are missing.

These figures describe our recorded journey, not a budget guarantee for everyone.

Mexico · Nightlife

A night out with an unexpected ending.

After a night out in Cancún, Justin and an acquaintance were taken to the police station. Jussi followed them there and paid in cash so they could both leave. Justin was released after about an hour and a half. The night cost us €352 in total.

The €352 is already included in our recorded spending. It accounts for a large part of the relatively high nightlife costs.
